Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has advised Malava residents to choose a trustworthy leader as their new Member of Parliament in the upcoming Malava Constituency by-elections.
Speaking in Nairobi on Wednesday, August 13, where he had met with Malava Constituency Religious Leaders, Mudavadi stressed that the next MP must be someone who President William Ruto trusts without hesitation.
While addressing the religious leaders, the PCS used a vivid example to drive his message on trust and loyalty.
“This is a glass of water I’ve placed here. If I leave to pick up my call and come back, then tell Job Osiega to take this glass away and bring me another glass and another bottle of water, it would mean I’m showing that I don’t trust the person who was sitting near my water,” the PCS explained.
“That person next to me would think, ‘This guy doesn’t trust me; he thinks maybe I tampered with his water’. But because people are human, they tend to be cautious. However, if you have trust, you won’t change the glass of water,” the PCS continued.
Mudavadi, who has been on the frontline drumming up support for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party candidate, advised the leaders to choose an MP whom the president can wholeheartedly trust with his glass of water.
“If you want President Ruto, when seated here, to have faith that the person you have presented to him as the MP is trustworthy enough to leave his glass and come back to it without ordering a replacement, then you must choose wisely,” Mudavadi advised.
The by-election, triggered by the passing on of three-term MP Malulu Injendi in February 2025, has drawn over 30 aspirants, turning Malava into a political battleground.
Among the frontrunners are Seth Panyako of the United Democratic Party (UDP), Edgar Busiega Mwanga of the newly formed Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), and Ryan Injendi, the late MP’s son, who is believed to have UDA backing.
According to Mudavadi, if they elect a trustworthy leader, all their development projects that have been delayed would be fast-tracked, and the constituency will enjoy the fruits of the Kenya Kwanza government.
Mudavadi’s appeal comes amid shifting political alliances. Edgar Busiega Mwanga, once considered a UDA hopeful, recently defected to DCP, led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Meanwhile, Ryan Injendi’s candidacy has faced internal challenges, with presidential aide Farouk Kibet reportedly shifting support to Dr Enock Andanje.
The by-elections are slated for November 27, 2025, after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) chairman Erastus Ethakon’s announcement.
