President William Ruto has announced the government's plan to construct eight new roads and a rice milling company in Migori County as part of his administration's efforts to enhance development in the area.

The Head of State, while speaking on Thursday, August 14, afternoon in Migori County, said the government had already allocated adequate capital to finance the construction of the said roads.

He revealed that the government had allocated Ksh1.5 billion to facilitate the construction of the roads, and that an additional Ksh2 billion was set to be disbursed in the coming weeks.

According to Ruto, construction of the eight roads followed a request from Migori residents through their governor, Ochilo Ayacko. Ruto claimed that Ayacko had approached him directly.

"We are planning to construct 8 additional roads here in Migori. The first one will be a 50-kilometre road here in Awendo; we have already allocated money for that road," he said.

"The other road is the one in Sibuoche connecting to Uriri; we have also allocated money for that project. Another one will be built here in Posta and a road in Piny Oyie. Again, we will build another road in Oruba and a road in Kehancha," Ruto added.

Additionally, Ruto pledged the establishment of a rice milling company in the area. According to him, the mill would be constructed in Nyatike, Migori County, to aid local farmers who, he said, lamented over a lack of market for their produce.

He revealed that the government had already contacted a private investor who would soon invest Ksh200 million in the milling firm. The project would be done jointly with the county government.

“I promised that we will look for an investor to establish a rice mill here in Nyatike. I can now confirm to you that we have an investor who has already talked to the county government," Ruto revealed.

He added: "The programme to build the rice mill will begin this month. We have found an investor who is ready to invest up to 200 million in the project."

In addition to the road construction and the rice milling company, the Head of State also promised to establish a pier in Muhuru Bay. A project he said would be undertaken by the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA).

Similarly, Ruto announced the government's ambitious plan to construct new hostels in 15 tertiary institutions within Migori, adding that his administration already allocated Ksh4 billion for the project.
