There was drama at the Milimani Law Courts on Monday, August 25, after activist Julius Kamau disrupted proceedings to criticise the government and the judicial system.
Kamau briefly stole the show during proceedings by sprawling himself in the court corridors, where he openly called out the judicial system in the full glare of police officers and lawyers.
The commotion briefly halted proceedings, with Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina ordering the activist to be detained.
Despite orders to have him detained, Kamau did not falter as he went on with his tirade, insisting that Kenyans should not trust the judiciary.
"You can never get justice in the courts! In a system that only favours the rich, you cannot trust it," Kamau is heard saying before court orderlies attempt to subdue him.
As he was dragged away by two officers, the activist continued with his rant, insisting he was not out of order and was simply standing up for the rights of ordinary Kenyans.
He went on, “This is too painful,” Kamau shouted as he was led away. “Call me a madman, but we will not continue living like this. I'm very sane; the people in power are sick!”
Notably, Kamau has developed a knack for pulling sensational stunts in the name of advocating for Kenyans' rights. The activist has been an ever-present figure around the courts, particularly during cases which involve individuals in trouble with the law for their activist ways.
In May 2025, Kamau went viral once again as he disrupted proceedings to demand justice for Rex Maasai, who was slain during the June 2024 protests.
Separately, in September 2024, he performed a similar stunt after disrupting an ongoing court case against activist Bonface Mwangi and four others for allegedly participating in GenZ demos.
As far as charges, Kamau can likely be charged with creating a disturbance in a public place, which is an infringement under the Penal Code, Section 95.
In such a case, one can face imprisonment of up to 1 year, a fine, or both.
