Kajiado County will allocate 7,965 parcels of land across seven townships as part of efforts to address longstanding land ownership disputes in the county.
The parcels have been planned and surveyed and are to be allocated for residential and mixed-purpose use.
According to a notice issued by the National Land Commission (NLC), on behalf of the County Government of Kajiado, the allocations will take effect 30 days from the date of publication if there are no objections.
Among the parcels listed are 2,663 in Kajiado township, home of the county headquarters; 2,572 in Noonkopir township, close to Kitengela; 1,715 in Namanga township on the Kenya-Tanzania border; and 350 in Isinya township.
Additional allocations include 160 in Kimuka township, 105 in Oloitoktok township, and 400 in Bulbul township.
“Notice is hereby given that at the expiry of 30 days from the date of publication of this notice, the National Land Commission (NLC), on behalf of the County Government of Kajiado, intends to regularise tenure of land within the listed townships in Kajiado County for residential and mixed purposes use (subject to terms, covenants, conditions and reservations which shall be included in the conveyance document) in accordance with section 14 of the Land Act 2012,” the notice signed by NLC chairman Gershom Otachi Bw’Omanwa reads in part.
The notice states that ownership details may be inspected at the office of the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Lands in Kajiado, the Director of Surveys in Nairobi, and the NLC offices during working hours.
Otachi further urged anyone with objections to file them within 15 days.
“In the absence of any valid objections, the allocation shall take place at the Commission’s offices in Nairobi (316 Upper Hill Chambers, 2nd Ngong Avenue) as from 2.30pm on the next working day following the expiry of this notice,” he said.
In November 2024, the NLC had separately announced plans to allocate 375 parcels across five townships in Kajiado County as part of an earlier land tenure regularisation programme.
The county launched its first 10-year Spatial Plan in July 2023, aiming to guide land reforms, protect fragile ecosystems, integrate green spaces, and transition to larger plot sizes. This is amid growing urbanisation in the county that neighbours the country's capital, Nairobi.
