President William Ruto has donated Ksh1 million to the family of Susan Nabwire, the woman who was killed by her husband in Pipeline, Nairobi, on August 13.
The amount is expected to cover a trust fund for the couple's one-year-old daughter that will pay for her education.
Despite the donation, the MP called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to hasten the its investigations and achieve justice for Nabwire's family.
The donation was announced by Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris when she attended the burial on Saturday, September 13.
"President William Ruto extended a helping hand with Ksh1 million, now set aside for an education trust for Susan’s 1-year-old daughter," Passaris Stated.
"But money cannot replace justice. The DCI must expedite this case. The key witness, a maid who was also violated, is living in fear. Families deserve closure, and survivors deserve protection."
The burial was held in Busia on Saturday, and Passaris was joined by Busia Woman Representative Catherine Amayo, PS Gender Anne Wang’ombe, PS Economic Planning & Treasury Bonface Makokha, Kajiado Woman Representative Leah Sankaire, and others.
On the night of August 13, Nabwire's husband, a 44-year-old former police officer, allegedly killed Nabwire before turning to his house help and sexually assaulting her.
While recounting the incident, Nabwire's mother relayed that the suspect had arrived home on that fateful day, already in a foul mood and started demanding her phone, passwords, and the PIN to her mobile money account.
Later on that night, the suspect took an axe and embarked on a brutal physical attack on her, delivering a blow to the neck that left her with a deep cut that sent her collapsing helplessly to the floor.
Afterwards, he took a rope and started strangling her with it and then took a knife and started to stab her in the eyes. She then shoved her body under the bed and turned to the househelp, sexually assaulting her.
After the attack, he locked his wife's lifeless body in the house with the house help and their one-year-old toddler and left with their mobile phones.
He was arrested on August 26 and held at the Embakasi Police Station.
