President William Ruto became the first Head of State to attend a church service at the State House Interdenominational Chapel.

The chapel, which is constructed using an iron sheet, was erected to serve staff and their families who live and work within the State House compound; however, much goes on here.

Speaking during the service on Sunday, September 14, the chapel's chaplain, Benard Njagi, claimed that the chapel, which has been operational for 22 years, not only serves the needs of workers but has also been used by other senior clergy to pray for the president and the government.

According to Njagi, during the 2022 General Election case, senior clergy members across the country convened at the chapel to pray for President Ruto.

Njagi further claimed that two months before the anti-government protests in 2024 began, members of the clergy got revelations about the protests and prayed at the chapel. The prayers, according to Njagi, prevented the protests from culminating into a national security threat.

"We have been here for the last 22 years, and we praise God because we have been praying for you. Even during the election case, we were here supporting you; we also have your photo here so that we may pray for your projects," Njagi stated.

"Thus, the church was started so that we may pray for all the presidents, and we have been here praying together with other senior bishops and preachers. And we prophesy that you will prosper," he added.

During the service, Njagi claimed that Ruto made the promise to attend a church service at the church two years ago.

"Thank you so much, President, for coming here. I remember the first time we talked during the dedication; you told me that you would come here. That was two years ago, and you have finally fulfilled the promise, which means that you are truthful, just like the bible stipulates," Njagi stated.

"This morning, we are privileged to have the president in our service, and it is a blessing, and in history, he is the first one to attend a church service at State House Chapel," said the service leader.

Njagi claimed that despite hurdles, he believes President Ruto will manage to construct another chapel to serve the State House.

During his speech, the Head of State defended the church project, stating that the new development was only an improvement of the temporary and dilapidated structure previously used by State House officials.
