Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) leader Kalonzo Musyoka has dismissed reports of him stepping down from the 2027 Presidential race.

In a video shared on his social media on Friday, September 19, Kalonzo dismissed the reports, accusing bloggers from the Kenya Kwanza administration of spreading the falsehoods.

Kalonzo, a member of the United Opposition, maintained that he would be on the Presidential ballot come the 2027 General Election.

“When did these claims of me stepping down from the 2027 Presidential elections emerge? I know all my enemies are suffering, because they know I will definitely be on the ballot come 2027, God willing,” he said.

The former vice president has come under scrutiny for his involvement with the United Opposition, amid reports that he is set to defect and join President William Ruto's camp ahead of the 2027 elections.

Previously, leaders allied to Ruto had called upon Kalonzo to join the government, arguing that with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in their ranks, Kalonzo was part of a faction that had a  "divisive and disrespectful" political strategy.

Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula and Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua have been at the heart of these calls, urging Kalonzo to be the custodian of his own political path.

“To my brother Kalonzo, don’t allow anybody to make friends or create enemies for you. Your friends are not necessarily someone’s friends, and your enemies are not someone’s enemies,” Wetangula said on June 9.

Mutua echoed this on June 17: "Even if Kalonzo is humble and fears Gachagua, he should be talking to him and telling him what is right and wrong, because the disrespect Gachagua is showing us now, he used it to claim that we cannot give enough votes".

However, Kalonzo refused the invitation, maintaining he was not joining Ruto’s government.

"I will never join this rogue and criminal regime, and I refuse to participate in any type of dialogue with a regime that has our children's blood on its hands," Kalonzo said.

Another instance was seen when Kalonzo had to clarify on reports of him being appointed to a diplomatic mission to Côte d'Ivoire by Ruto.

Kalonzo, on Thursday, August 7, flagged as fake a viral social media post purporting that he had been appointed to preside over a peace dialogue in the West African country ahead of its elections.

The fake post, which began circulating on Wednesday, August 6, alleged that the Azimio principal was part of a delegation chosen to represent the African Union during Côte d'Ivoire's polls.

It comes amidst reports of cracks within the United Opposition, with criticism levelled at the group for losing focus on its agenda for Kenyans. Critics have argued that a greater focus has been put on who will get which position in the group, as they aim to formalise their alliance.
