Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has dismissed claims of being appointed by President William Ruto for a diplomatic mission in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.
Kalonzo, on Thursday afternoon, flagged as fake a viral social media post purporting that he had been appointed to preside over a peace dialogue in the West African country ahead of its elections.
The fake post, which began circulating on Wednesday, August 6, alleged that the Azimio principal was part of a delegation chosen to represent the African Union during Côte d'Ivoire's polls.
To make the deceptive post appear authentic, it featured a forged signature falsely attributing it to the African Union Commission Chairperson, Mahamoud Youssouf.
Part of the misleading post read: "This mission builds on Musyoka's extensive continental experience, including his successful mediation role in South Sudan and his prior shuttle diplomacy efforts in Côte d'Ivoire."
The post has since attracted widespread concern from Kenyans, with some calling on the Wiper party leader to clarify the matter amid questions over his potential links with Ruto's administration.
In response to the post, Kalonzo termed it as absolute fake news, claiming that it was a scheme by his political opponents to tarnish his reputation.
While dismissing the allegations, the former Vice President expressed his commitment to continue standing with the Kenyans against what he termed a repressive regime.
"Absolutely fake! I will always stand with the people of Kenya. I will not dialogue with those who abduct young Kenyans," Kalonzo wrote.
Kalonzo, who is part of the United Opposition team, has been critical of President Ruto's administration, accusing it of several wrongdoings, including human rights violations.
His latest pronouncement comes hardly five days after he criticised the Head of State for failing to uphold the rule of law and intimidating independent institutions.
Speaking at a public event on Sunday, August 3, Kalonzo also dismissed Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s empowerment programmes, calling them a fabricated scheme serving only a few in power.
"This employment thing amounts to a misuse of office; they think they can bribe Kenyans. They will not get away with it," the Wiper party leader stated.
