Drama ensued on Saturday, September 21, in Kitale after National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula's protocol officer, Ben Juma, allegedly attacked the Saboti constituency MP aspirant, Joseph Pepela.
According to reports, the incidents occurred at a Kitale club, where Pepela was holding a meeting with former Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa.
According to videos obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the situation escalated to a point where Wamalwa brandished his gun to protect Pepela against Juma, with people seen attempting to hold him back from opening fire.
However, Juma, who was not backing down, repeatedly said, "Chris, we are not fighting," saying that they have no problem with Wamalwa, but rather Pepala, who Juma claims disrespected FORD party leader Moses Wetang'ula.
However, the physically agitated Wamalwa repeatedly shouted "tawe", a Luhya language phrase used to mean "no" or "refusal", warning that there was no need to have an altercation at the club.
"Please get out. Tawe, we cannot fight at the club. Get out. Let us not disrespect each other," Wamalwa said.
"We respect you a lot, Chris, but who is Papela? He has been disrespecting the party leader, and we must teach him a lesson. Pepela is too much," Juma responded.
After the incident, Juma was seen being escorted from the club by the club's security personnel, who urged him to get out before the situation escalated further.
Neither the former MP nor Wetang'ula's office has commented on the matter.
The incident comes a week after Kitutu Chache South Member of Parliament Anthony Kibagendi engaged in a physical confrontation with Kitutu Chache North MP during a funeral in Sensi Ward, Kisii County.
The trouble began when Kibagendi, who had been given the microphone to address the mourners, launched into a tirade against President William Ruto, accusing him of lying to Kenyans. “We were hoodwinked as a community and as a nation to elect a President who is a liar,” Kibagendi said.
However, after the statement, Nyakundi abruptly intercepted him and grabbed the microphone, then attempted to force Kibagendi off the dais, sparking a scuffle that quickly escalated into a confrontation.
