Suspect in Brutal Assault on Woman in Narok Arrested, Manhunt Ongoing for Other Culprits

A man has been arrested in connection with the brutal assault of a woman in Narok County, as the search for the other suspects continues.

According to the police, he was one of four men seen in a viral video flogging a helpless woman.

In the video, which was widely shared on social media, the woman could be seen being whipped by the four men. In a statement released on Friday, September 26, the police revealed that the incident occurred in the Mbene area of the Ngarite district in Narok Central Sub-County.

The woman was rescued and taken to hospital for treatment after the incident, the police revealed in the statement.

According to unconfirmed reports, the men are believed to be her brothers. In the clip, a woman was seen being dragged on the floor before being beaten in turns.

The exact context of the video incident has not yet been established. 

Speculations indicated that the incident occurred after the woman allegedly turned down a marriage proposal from a man believed to have been preferred by her brothers, wo are allegedly the four men captured beating her.

"An investigation was commenced and a manhunt for the perpetrators was mounted, leading to a successful arrest of one suspect, who has been placed in custody pending arraignment in court."

"Police are still in hot pursuit of the remaining perpetrators with the objective of apprehending them to face judges," the statement by National Police Service (NPS) read.

The police described the incident as a serious crime involving gender-based violence, assault and kidnapping, all of which are punishable under the law.

The NPS also thanked the public for providing crucial information that aided their investigation into the matter.

"We commend the public for providing crucial information that led to arrest of the suspect and other officers for their prompt response," Nyaga said.
