There was drama on the Thika Superhighway when an Audi SUV, which was involved in a fatal accident near Northlands, was set on fire by angry boda boda riders.
The death of a boda boda rider involved in the accident allegedly prompted the violent reaction from the gang of riders who set the car on fire.
In an image obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, flames and smoke could be seen billowing out of the white vehicle, while the Audi's owner stood helplessly watching his car burn to the ground.
According to eyewitnesses, the rider involved in the accident died on the spot, not far from Kenyatta University.
Although firefighters from Ruiru arrived at the scene moments later to extinguish the fire, it was too late as the vehicle had already been completely destroyed.
This incident occurred after recent attacks in which motorists were captured on camera setting fire to public and private vehicles following accidents.
In another recent incident, an angry mob in Thika Makongeni set a private vehicle ablaze on September 7 following a road accident near the local police station.
The accident involved an Audi A3 hatchback, reportedly owned by a DCI officer.
The vehicle allegedly knocked down a rider and his passenger, leaving them with injuries. Outraged boda boda riders rushed to the scene in protest.
The fiery protest by the riders caused panic in the area and briefly disrupted traffic flow.
But this is not the only incident. Days before, angry boda boda operators in Vihiga County torched a PSV van after the driver allegedly ran over a rider in Luanda along the Kisumu-Busia highway.
The accident occurred near Luanda market when the 14-seater matatu is said to have lost control and struck the rider, killing him on the spot.
