Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has graduated as the top student in his Master's of International Relations class at the 47th United States International University- Africa (USIU-A) graduation ceremony.

Amisi took to social media on Saturday, September 27, to celebrate his achievement, revealing that he had amassed a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.913 out of a possible 4.00 points.

"I graduated as a top student in the Master of Arts in International Relations from USIU. GPA 3.913 out of 4.00. I thank God for this achievement," he said.

Amisi added that he had been a top pupil in the 2000 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam in what was then the Western Province. A result slip seen by Kenyans.co.ke reveals Amisi scored 590 marks out of a possible 700 in the KCPE exams, with straight As in Mathematics, English, and Science.

Amisi, reflecting on his humble beginnings, pointed to the tough journey that has led him to reach his current stage of life.

“25 years ago, an orphaned boy walked through the gates of Starehe Boys Center carrying only a padlock. This was after emerging as the top student in the Western region in the 2000 KCPE exams, and with no hope for high school fees, Starehe became the last hope.” he posted.

“Today, the same boy graduates as top student in the Master of Arts in international relations from USIU, amidst a convoluted political environment, coupled with the highly demanding public service work. We do not choose where, when, and whom to be born from, but we definitely have the power to choose our own destiny,” Amisi added.

The ODM second-term MP, who is currently aligned with the new Kenya Moja political outfit, noted he would use his new qualification to better his duties of legislation, representation, and oversight in Parliament.

“This will really help improve my work, especially in the Foreign Relations Committee. Poverty is afraid of determination,” he added.

Amisi is a member of the National Assembly Defence Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee, the Vice Chairperson of the Public Investments Committee, and also sits in the Appointments Committee, which vets government appointees before their appointments.

Last week, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei were part of thousands of graduates at the University of Nairobi ceremony.

Nyoro graduated with a Master of Arts Degree in Economics, while Koskei graduated with a Master’s in Zoology.
