Kakamega County government has announced plans to hire more than 265 medical personnel in a fresh recruitment bid aimed at boosting healthcare delivery in the region.

The declaration of vacancies was made public through a notice issued by the County Public Service Board on Monday, calling on qualified applicants to submit their applications before the October 10 time limit.

According to the notice, the recruitment drive would seek to hire a wide range of health professionals, with doctors featuring among the largest number that would be considered.

A total of 18 medical officers will be recruited to strengthen service provision in public hospitals across the county and address the existing staffing gaps in both primary and referral health facilities.

In addition, the county is seeking to hire pharmacists, dental officers, nurses, nutritionists, physiotherapists, and clinical officers, among other cadres.

The county, which has in recent years faced significant challenges, among them the doctors' strike, which ended in May this year, will also be hiring medical laboratory officers (4), radiographers (11), assistant health records officers (14), and mortuary attendants (3), among others.

The month-long strike on May 30, 2025, followed after signing of a return-to-work agreement with the county government that addressed key grievances, including health insurance, promotions, and the conversion of locum doctors to permanent terms.

The county further revealed that it will be targeting to hire additional personnel for community-level services, including 13 community oral health officers and 14 public health officers.

These professionals will be expected to support preventive healthcare initiatives and enhance outreach in rural areas in line with the government’s quest to provide a universal health coverage plan.
