The Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry (MITI) has invited Kenyans to submit their views on the proposed Standard Bill 2025 before October 28, 2025.

According to MITI, the main objective of introducing the draft bill is to influence the future of trade, consumer safety and industry regulations in Kenya.

The ministry added that the bill aims to establish a legal framework for standardisation, metrology and conformity.

“The Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry (MITI) has developed a draft Standards Bill, 2025. The Bill seeks to provide an overarching framework to promote standardization, metrology and conformity assessment in industry and trade, provide for the safety and quality of products and services, and facilitate fair trade practices in Kenya,” part of the notice read.

A standard for products and services will be set to ensure accurate trade measurements and to check that goods meet the required standards before they reach consumers.

If the bill is enacted, it will impact both consumers and businesses, positively and negatively.

The Ministry has stated that it will improve the safety and quality of goods sold in Kenya, promote fair competition and facilitate smoother trade across the border.

However, business owners will face strict compliance checks and additional costs for testing and certification.

Submitting Feedback

The Ministry has urged members of the public to submit feedback on the draft Kenya Bureau of Standards Bill either via the Kenya Bureau of Standards website or by emailing standardsbill@kebs.org before the due date.

The ministry has organised a series of public forums across the country to collect views from members of the public interested in giving written feedback.

The consultation will begin on October 8 at the Sarova Whitesands Hotel in the Coastal region, then move to the Mt Kenya region on October 13 at the Marsabit FK Resort and Spa.

Meetings will also be held in the following locations:

  • North Eastern region: Mandera Government Guest House, Garissa on October 15
