The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) have warned the public to be cautious of individuals fraudulently soliciting money from unsuspecting Kenyans in exchange for slots in the upcoming KDF recruitment exercise.
In its weekly bulletin on Friday October 3, the KDF disclosed that it had received multiple reports of fraudsters attempting to solicit bribes through hotlines and social media platforms.
According to the KDF, scammers pose as members of the defence forces and ask for money in exchange for influencing the outcome of the recruitment process.
"The Ministry of Defence and KDF have received multiple reports through hotlines and social media platforms regarding attempts by fraudulent individuals and groups to solicit monies promising to influence the recruitment process," KDF revealed.
Adding: "We urge the public to remain vigilant and not fall victim to these impostors who are falsely claiming to be KDF officials or recruitment agents."
While cautioning members of the public against falling for such antics, KDF called on Kenyans who encounter any corruption or suspicious recruitment activity to report it immediately to the nearest police station or military camp.
The defence forces further reiterated that the recruitment was based strictly on merit, qualifications and performance in the official selection process.
Additionally, KDF clarified that applications for General Service Officers (GSO), Specialist Officers and Tradesmen and women should only be submitted through the official recruitment portal.
KDF's warning comes three weeks after the military announced a nationwide recruitment drive for various departments, with the application open until October 12, 2025.
According to the military, while the recruitment would take place up to October 12, the shortlisting would be published in the dailies from October 21 to October 24 this year.
Among the requirements included being a Kenyan citizen, having a valid identity card, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) pin certificate and academic certificates.
Further, an applicant must be between the ages of 18 and 28 for cadets and general duty officers, while constables must be between the ages of 30 to 55 years.
