Kaluma Boy, the 17-year-old TikToker who went viral for taking care of his ailing father, has scored a full scholarship at the East African University.

Bishop Ben Kamau, also known as Muthee Kiengei, announced the news during a Thanksgiving Service at JCM Church in Ruiru on Sunday.

According to Kiengei, Kaluma Boy will undertake a course in Sales and Marketing with an emphasis on digital marketing.

Insisting that Kaluma Boy ought to be the biggest beneficiary of the donations, Kiengei relayed that the next step for him would be attending university to change the course of his life.

"I want to announce that Kaluma Boy will be joining the university," Kiengei announced, followed by excited cheers from the congregation that had gathered for the service.

"Dr Christopher Mutembei is the Vice Chancellor of the East African University, and this morning, he has confirmed that Kaluma Boy has been granted a full scholarship in the East African University, and Kaluma Boy will undertake a course in Sales and Marketing to enhance his skills in digital marketing."

The church, through its patron, had sought the scholarship for Kaluma, according to Kiengei, but he insisted that the church had not been in contact with the money contributed to the family.

The Thanksgiving ceremony comes just a week after thousands of TikTokers, the Nduthi Culture Community and other Kenyans of goodwill flocked to Kaluma's home in Othaya, Nyeri, to visit his father.

This followed weeks of meticulous planning on TikTok Lives and Comment Sections after Kaluma shared snippets of his daily life, including farm work and taking care of his life, pulling at the heartstrings of Kenyans.

To facilitate Kaluma's father's safe journey to the church in Ruiru, Kiengei lent his ambulance to transport him.

He further promised the ambulance to an upcoming hospital that TikTokers have decided to fundraise for and build, as public hospitals tend to be unresourceful for sick Kenyans.

After settling Kaluma's family, the TikTokers are planning to visit Mama Gift, another TikToker with an ailing child requiring treatment in India.

Speaking at the event, Kiengei promised to lead the service during the visit to Mama Gift in Embu and ensure that once they visit on Sunday, the family will be on its way to India before Wednesday for Gift's treatment.
