Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has cautioned opposition leaders against division, particularly in the lead-up to the 2027 polls, warning that it could derail their plan to win the next elections.

Speaking on Thursday morning during an interview on Radio Maisha, the lawmaker urged the opposition leaders to promptly address their differences and come up with one candidate to represent them in the 2027 General Elections.

While exuding confidence in the opposition's chances of winning in the next general elections, Babu expressed his displeasure with the broad-based government, insisting that there was no viable reason to back it.

"Even the opposition can win it, but they should stop small disagreements. They should unite and produce one candidate. Without unity, it won't be easy for the opposition," Babu stated.

"Let the opposition sit down and talk. Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, Martha Karua, and Fred Matiang'i should all sit down and come up with a solution," he added.

During the interview, the lawmaker went ahead to take a swipe at President William Ruto, accusing him of allegedly betraying his former Deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, by reportedly instigating his impeachment.

Babu likened Gachagua's alleged betrayal by the Head of State to his alleged oppression by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leadership.

"I have not been convinced to vote for the current regime. Gachagua is a person who was oppressed by the government, just like I was oppressed by the ODM party. He was betrayed by Ruto," Babu Owino alleged.

Adding "I hate betrayal in politics. I have been betrayed in politics, and I have been betrayed so many times, but that is not something I want to talk about today."

The legislator's latest comments come a day after he refuted claims of reportedly defecting from ODM to join the Wiper party following his decision to attend Kalonzo Musyoka's event.

In an interview with Radio Citizen on Wednesday, October 8, the MP clarified that his close association with the former Vice President was personal and should not be misinterpreted.

The lawmaker questioned why he was being labelled a rebel within the party for merely communicating with Kalonzo, reiterating that there was nothing wrong with maintaining communication with political allies.

"Even if you put politics aside, what has Kalonzo done bad? So by just communicating with Kalonzo now, people have begun saying that I have started being rude," Babu said.

This was after he formally endorsed Kalonzo as the best bet to unseat President Ruto in the next general elections, adding that Kalonzo's resilience when working with Kibaki and Raila made him the most preferred candidate.
