Harrowing details have emerged about a bizarre incident in which a General Service Unit (GSU) officer manning State House was killed by a civilian on Monday, October 13.
The assailant reportedly used a bow and arrow to attack the officer in an assault which took place outside Gate D of the State House.
Preliminary reports suggest the officer was on duty alongside other colleagues when he was attacked with a bow and arrow, which landed on the left side of his chest.
Notably, the attack took place at a place considered a clearing zone for motorists and pedestrians before proceeding into the State House, either via car or on foot.
Witnesses at the scene claim to have witnessed the man approach the security officers posing as a member of the street families.
The man, believed to be in his 50s, was carrying a large sack where he had stuffed the bow and arrows used to assault the officer.
He waited until two other officers were distracted during the clearance of a car at the gate before launching his assault on the other GSU officer.
According to reports, the incident took place just as President William Ruto was on the verge of leaving State House ahead of a visit to Konza City in Machakos County.
The injured officer was rushed to the Kenyatta National Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.
Meanwhile, the assailant was descended upon by other officers and was immediately arrested following the attack. Officers reportedly briefly considered neutralising the suspect but decided to take him in for questioning to determine his motives.
Police have since revealed that the assailant claimed to have been 'sent by Satan' to attack the officer.
This was the second death of a GSU officer in less than 24 hours, coming barely a day after another officer was killed by a civilian at a hotel off Mombasa Road.
According to a police report, the officer, who was assigned to guard the JKIA perimeter fence, had visited the hotel to charge his mobile phone.
A supervisor at the resort further reports that he witnessed an unidentified man strangling the officer within the hotel premises after an altercation turned physical. The officer was later found lifeless at a water-filled trench.
