The government has issued a fresh warning over engaging in exam malpractices as the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations enters its second day.

In a statement, the Ministry revealed that a few isolated incidents had been reported, with the perpetrators already under police custody.

The Ministry warned that persons caught engaging in the malpractices will face the full force of the law.

It added that the government would put in place all the necessary measures to preserve the integrity of the exams, which close to a million candidates are sitting for.

“There have been isolated attempts at examination malpractices. Individuals who have been implicated have been arrested and the incidents are under investigation,” noted the Ministry.

“Immediate action will be taken against any individuals who will be found to be in violation of the applicable rules and regulations,” it added.

The warning came after the principal of a Narok high school was suspended over allegations of engaging in KCSE exam malpractices.

Although not naming the principal or the school, Narok County Director of Education Apollo Apuko confirmed the suspension, adding that a probe into the school was being conducted.

The deputy principal of the school is set to take over and oversee the administration of the school throughout the exam period.

"He was not working in accordance with the regulations that were set, and therefore the Deputy Principal will take over and run the examinations until they end," Apuko said.

In another case, security agencies in Kajiado County launched a probe against a top private boarding school over suspected exam irregularities.

The school, among the top performers in the 2024 KCSE exams, was put under the spotlight by authorities over the alleged malpractices. However, the exact nature of suspected malpractice at the school was not revealed by officials.

Meanwhile the government also confirmed that the Ministry would airlift examination material to Elgeyo Marakwet, after heavy rains and landslides rendered some of the roads impassable.

Also, special arrangements were to be made to ensure that examinations would be delivered to students who were hospitalised after being affected by the landslides.
