Rigathi Gachagua's Democracy for the Citizens' Party (DCP) has unveiled a new youth-led approach as it seeks to solicit support from the country's young population ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

Speaking on Wednesday, November 5, at the DCP headquarters in Nairobi, Party Youth Leader Wanjiku Thiga said the youth wing was ready to transform Kenya's politics and expand the party’s reach.

In the event attended by Gachagua and DCP's Deputy Cleophas Malala, the vocal youth leader noted that the young generation was ready to take matters into their own hands and elect leaders of their choice.

"We are the generation that refuses to be silenced. The ones who know that our revolution will not be televised; it will be organised,” affirmed the DCP youth leader.

During the forum, also attended by other senior party officials, Thiga announced the rollout of a Youth Training Manual, describing it as the 'political bible' for young aspirants.

According to Thiga, the manual would be used to train and empower emerging young leaders to champion DCP’s vision and core values as the party continues to grow.

"From this, we shall build capacity, sharpen minds, and create a new breed of leaders, unbought, unbowed, and unstoppable,” she added.

As part of the strategy to boost the party's visibility ahead of the next general elections, the party agreed to train and support over 300 young aspirants.

DCP also announced plans to establish youth offices in all 47 counties, mobilise at least three million youth votes and launch university and college chapters nationwide.

In the meeting, DCP's youth wing vowed to increase representation in elected offices. Statistics indicate that only 52 out of 330 Members of Parliament are youth, with Thiga assuring the party's intention to change the data.

To further enhance youth enrollment and political participation, Thiga called on Gachagua and the party leadership to waive the nomination fees for youth aspirants.

Additionally, the DCP youth leader expressed the party's commitment to enhancing gender equality, reiterating that out of 1,450 elected MCAs in Kenya, only 12 are young women.

“Achieving the two-thirds gender rule is not a constitutional burden but a moral duty. We will ensure young women stand shoulder to shoulder with young men in leadership,” Thiga emphasised.
