Isabella Leshimporo has been elected as the first female Member of County Assembly in Samburu County, breaking the gender spell since the beginning of devolution in 2013.
Isabella was elected as the MCA for Angata Nanyukie Ward during the 27th November 2025 by-elections under the United Democratic Alliance ticket.
The MCA was elected following the death of the then MCA, Paul Leshimpiro, who was shot dead by bandits in Samburu in 2024.
Isabella Leshimpiro was the wife of the former MCA, Paul Leshimpiro, and has now succeeded her late husband who was murdered while being driven home in February 2024.
The first female Samburu MCA beat her two competitors after garnering 1,235 votes. She was followed closely by Pauline Nasieku Lenkupae of the National Agenda Party of Kenya with 1,000 votes and ODM’s Letoluai Loisia with 954 votes.
Her victory has been celebrated by the United Democratic Party.
"Congratulations to Hon. Isabella Leshimpiro on her election as MCA for Angata Nanyokie Ward. We celebrate your well-deserved victory and wish you all the best as you serve the people of Angata Nanyokie and Samburu County at large under the UDA Party," the party wrote on social media.
The Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) recognised Isabella's political milestone for being elected as the first female MCA in Samburu.
"KEWOPA congratulates Isabella Leshimpiro on her election as MCA for Angata Nanyukie, making history as the first woman ever to achieve this in Samburu County. Your milestone inspires women’s participation in leadership across Kenya," the association remarked.
KEWOPA is a caucus of all women Parliamentarians across the country that include Members of National Assembly, Members of Senate, and County Assembly.
