New details have emerged regarding the late Angata Nanyekie Member of County Assembly (MCA) Paul Leshimpiro's passionate plea to President William Ruto three weeks before his death.

The lawmaker was shot dead by suspected bandits along Morijo-Baragoi Road in Samburu on Sunday morning.

On January 29, Leshimpiro appeared on news outlets asking the Head of State to take decisive action against the bandits who have been wreaking havoc on families in the region.

The MCA made the request in a firm tone of voice suggesting that the issue had continued to affect many households.

"This morning we were trying to call the security personnel because there was an issue. A second person is dead today when we are burying another one. Mr President, you do not have to wait any further. You need to take an action," he told the press.

"Do not suggest to us that you are less powerful than a bandit. Do not suggest to us that you are less armed than a bandit."

At the time, the bandits had stormed the home of the former Agriculture Principal Secretary Richard Lesiyampe where several residents keep their livestock on the assumption that it is a much safer place.

The residents revealed that the bandits accessed the home after opening fire towards the house.

“They came and sprayed the house with about 20 bullets,” one resident stated.

A day later, another attack occurred during the burial ceremony of a police reservist who had been killed by suspected bandits.

The ensuing shootout left one mourner dead while others sustained injuries.

“From today I am starting a movement. For all who have lost their lives and the government has failed to save them, I will look for lawyers and take their cases to court,” Lesiyampe stated at the time.

Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda vowed to carry on with activism work undertaken by the MCA to ensure that peace is restored in the region.

"Only last month you called for action, today they got you. Rest in Peace Mheshimiwa (honourable). We will not tire of calling for decisive action. How many more lives before it is enough? No one is safe," she stated.

Leshimpiro's driver survived the attack.
