The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) is on the receiving end once again, following renewed complaints by a section of Kenyans over delays in the issuance of the reflective number plates.
Applicants now claim that the process of receiving the number plates has become frustrating and that despite frequent attempts to follow up, their efforts have borne no fruit.
Some of those affected have, in recent days, taken to social media to express their frustrations, and among them is lawyer and activist Morara Kebaso, who on Wednesday, January 7, took to his X account to express his dissatisfaction.
According to the activist, he has been waiting more than two months for a reflective number plate despite receiving a confirmation message that his application had been approved.
In the post, Kebaso questioned NTSA’s efficiency and accountability, accusing the agency of allegedly subjecting Kenyans to delays despite having the ability to speed up the process.
As per his post, NTSA had allegedly approved the request for a reflective plate and promised to notify him once it was ready for collection, but he has yet to receive a response.
He claimed that weeks after the application, the plate had still not been issued to him, with many other applicants expressing the same reservations, lamenting the continued delays by NTSA.
For instance, another applicant lamented having waited since November last year but had yet to receive their reflective plate. Nonetheless, others expressed frustrations over driving licence delays.
"Not you alone, boss. Even I am still waiting for it," commented an online user, with another stating, "There are so many of us still waiting. Mine has been pending since November."
Attempts by Kenyans.co.ke to reach out to NTSA for clarification regarding the matter proved futile as the Authority failed to provide feedback.
Even as pressure continues to mount, some members of the public have called on NTSA to come out and address the persistent delays in the issuance of the plates.
This comes amid growing resentment among motorists who have called for the overhaul of the Authority, which they blame for some of the challenges facing drivers.
