Concerns have arisen after the body of a school watchman was found dumped in a classroom in Harambee Khalsa Comprehensive School in Nakuru, after robbers reportedly raided the school.
The body was found on Thursday, January 8, morning, stopping activities at the institution. Images from media reports have shown the classroom where the body of the watchman was found with blood on the floor.
Residents from Nakuru arrived at the school with the family of the deceased, grieving over the death of their loved one.
Speaking to the media, the son of the deceased watchman said that the family has suffered a huge loss by losing their breadwinner.
“He paid my school fees with the salary from his work at this school until I finished my studies; he would even take loans from the school,” the son revealed.
The son further revealed that his father was catering for the fees of his brother, who is currently in Form Four, and was the sole breadwinner of the family.
The chair of the school board has called for a swift investigation into the incident, claiming that there was nothing to be stolen at the school.
“This is a big shock to the school, because there was nothing at the school, and the police should take swift action to apprehend the culprits,” the chairperson claimed.
Reports from workers at the school indicate that windows were broken in a number of classrooms and some offices in the school.
Nakuru East Police Commander Samson Andaje has ruled out that the incident was a targeted crime.
“The incident was not a targeted thing because the office was broken into, and the scene is being analysed to confirm what was stolen,” the police commander said.
The commander revealed that investigations into the matter are underway to determine the perpetrators of the crime.
