Authorities are investigating the brutal murder of a 17-year-old girl in Mbita Sub-County after she went missing on her way to grind maize at the posho mill in Kirindo.

According to authorities and family accounts, the victim, a young girl, left her home on Tuesday morning with a quantity of maize to be ground at the posho mill at Kirindo. Her journey was a short, routine errand.

Reports indicate that the girl never made it to the mill located at the Kirindo Shopping Centre, sparking concern from her parents

The circumstances behind her disappearance unfolded when the girl failed to return home for lunch. Alarmed by her unexplained absence, her family initiated a search. Their tracing of her probable route led to the discovery of spilt from her sack scattered on the road.

Continuing their desperate search, the family then identified what appeared to be her footprints. Following this trail, the search party scoured the surrounding area till evening.

At night, the girl’s lifeless body was later discovered in a nearby thicket. The brutal murder has since sent panic and anger throughout the community.

Mbita sub-county Deputy County Commissioner(DCC) Peter Mutiso strongly condemned the incident as he revealed investigations were underway to nab the perpetrator.

“We condemn the incident in the strongest terms possible because we cannot live in a society where some people are putting other people’s lives in danger, targeting young innocent children and women,” he stated.

Echoing these sentiments, another resident issued a fervent appeal for swift justice, calling on authorities to fast-track the investigations.

“In the strongest terms I want to condemn the act, and I’m appealing to the security personnel to act very fast so we can get the killer. We need to know the motive behind the act so that our people cannot live in fear because people are now panicking, ” he cited

Local security personnel have since launched a probe into the murder. The community now waits anxiously for answers and arrests, hoping to restore a sense of security shattered by the event.

The incident was eerily similar to one which took place in December 2024, where CCTV footage captured a Grade 7 pupil's last moments before she was discovered dead hours later in KAA Estate in Embakasi, Nairobi.
