Kenya Met Lists Nairobi, Kisumu & Nakuru Among Areas to Receive Rains Over Next Five Days

Several parts of the country including regions within the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, the Northeastern, and the South-eastern lowlands will receive rains over the next five days, Kenya Meteorological Department has forecasted .

In its weekend weather advisory published on Friday, December 5, Kenya Met said that while most parts of Kenya were expected to remain dry and sunny, the above areas would receive moderate to heavy rains between December 6 to December 9.

In the  Highlands East, moderate rains are expected in some parts of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi Counties.

According to the weatherman, rain in these counties would start in the afternoon after a cloudy morning, followed by light rains breaking into sunny intervals.

Similarly, counties in the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley region that were forecasted to receive rain include Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, and Nyamira.

Other countries projected to experience a similar weather pattern include Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot.

Elsewhere in Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta Counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County, light showers were expected from Sunday, December 7, to Tuesday, December 9, with the rest of the days expected to be mostly cloudy.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country was projected to remain sunny and dry for the next five days, especially in the coastal counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale.

Temperature Advisory

In the advisory, the weather department warned residents living in Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi to brace for very cold nights.

According to Kenya Met, night temperatures in the aforementioned counties were projected to drop up to 05°C for the next five days.

On the other hand, daytime temperatures very high day time temperarures were forecasted in the North-western Kenya and the coastal part of the country.

Daytime temperatures in areas within the two regions would soar up to 37°C for counties in Northern Kenya and 33°C in the coastal counties.
