Several fans attached to Kenya Premier League giants AFC Leopards were left nursing injuries after the bus they were travelling in was involved in an accident in Baringo County on the evening of Sunday, December 28.

Preliminary reports indicate the accident occurred around the Timboroa area as the fans were travelling to a festival using a bus linked to Latema Sacco.

Photos obtained by Kenyans.co.ke show the bus toppled to its side, suggesting it may have lost control along the busy highway.

The emergency window was also missing after the accident -  an indication that the passengers were forced to use the back of the bus to escape after it overturned.

AFC Leopards chairman Boniface Ambani has since confirmed the accident through his social media pages, stating that there were no deaths from the incident.

A Latema bus carrying AFC Leopards SC  members has been involved in an accident at Timboroa, several members have been injured," Ambani stated. Our prayers are with them. I pray for the quickest recovery of the injured. In my prayers."

Kenyans.co.ke has since learnt that the passengers were from the AFC Leopards fan club Githurai Branch, and were en route to the Vulai Festival in Kakamega.

The accident occurs amid growing road safety concerns during the festive season, as increased travel and heavy rains elevate the risk of crashes.

In a statement on Sunday, December 28, the National Transport and Safety Authority called for vigilance among motorists due to the reduced visibility and slippery roads.

"Ongoing heavy rainfall and foggy conditions are affecting some parts of the country, significantly heightening road risks due to reduced visibility and slippery surfaces," NTSA stated.

"We strongly urge drivers, motorcyclists, pedestrians, and cyclists to exercise extreme caution," the authority added.

NTSA, in collaboration with the traffic police and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC),  assured that they will enhance surveillance on major traffic corridors across the country to ensure road safety.
