The Kenya Meteorological Department has urged Kenyans to prepare for more rain, thunderstorms, as well as strong winds this week.
In its weekly forecast, the department stated that some regions, including Nairobi, Kiambu, Kisumu, Nakuru, Nyandarua, Machakos, and Mombasa, are expected to experience isolated storms and heavy rains between Tuesday, December 30, 2025, and Saturday, January 3, 2026.
Residents of Marsabit County have also been encouraged to prepare for strong winds reaching up to 25knots(12.5m/s).
"Occasional rainfall is expected to continue over a few areas at the beginning of the week, particularly in the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, parts of the Northwest, Northeast, the Coastal region, and the south-eastern lowlands," the forecast said.
"Isolated storms and heavy rains are likely to occur in these regions. These conditions will then give way to predominantly sunny conditions across much of the country for the remainder of the week," it added.
Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi counties can expect cloudy skies with light rain interspersed with sunny intervals in the morning over the next five days, from Tuesday to Friday.
Showers are set to hit these regions during the afternoon and night in the next four days; however, Saturday will remain sunny throughout the day and partly cloudy during the night. Showers accompanied by thunderstorms might be experienced on Tuesday afternoon.
The maximum temperatures in these areas are expected to be 29°C, with a minimum of 05°C.
Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties, as well as inland areas of Tana River County, will also experience showers during the day and night until Thursday, and day-long sunny conditions will take over Friday and Saturday.
The maximum temperatures in these areas are expected to be 32°C, while the minimum will be 13°C.
Showers are expected to hit Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, as well as coastal parts of Tana River County, both during the day and night until Thursday. The weatherman has, however, said that sunny intervals will prevail on Friday and Saturday.
These counties are expected to record maximum temperatures of 34°C and minimum temperatures of 23°C.
Daylong rains and showers accompanied by thunderstorms are set to hit Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot counties. Friday and Saturday are expected to be sunny throughout the day.
During this period, the maximum temperatures in these counties are expected to reach 32°C, while the minimum will be 07°C.
Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties are expected to have sunny conditions for most of the week, except on Tuesday, when rain is anticipated throughout the day.
The maximum temperature in these regions will be 37°C, while the minimums are set to be 16°C.
The situation will be the same in Turkana and Samburu counties, according to the weatherman. The forecast predicts maximum temperatures of 37°C and minimum temperatures of 16°C in these counties.
