CORD leader Raila Odinga's has disclosed how two of her husband's friends; Siaya Senator James Orengo and the late Professor Rok Ajulu, made her despise politicians and lawyers.
Speaking on Saturday during the burial of Ajulu, Ida Odinga divulged that when she was a student at the University of Nairobi, the duo (Orengo and Ajulu) organized a students protest which forced her to extend her duration at the Varsity by one year.
"I was undertaking a Bachelor of Education degree that runs for four years but when Ajulu and his friend James Orengo led a radical movement at the university, I was forced to take another year," she said.
Ida added that after the incident, she vowed never to get married to lawyers, political scientist and politicians.
She noted that her marriage to one of the long-serving politicians in the country was only by the mere fact he (Odinga) introduced himself as an engineer.
"That is why when I met Raila and he told me he was an engineer, I knew he was the man destined for me," Ida said.
While eulogising Ajulu, the CORD leader's wife indicated that she was utterly shocked on her wedding day when she saw the South African-based professor grace the occasion.
"I was shocked when I saw the man I thought I would never meet after university accompanied by my sister-in-law. It was there that I understood that Ajulu was our relative," Ida remarked.
She remembered Ajulu, who served as an advisor to the first Vice President of Kenya - Jaramogi Oginga Odinga - as a sharp and vibrant person who pushed for democracy.
Prof. Ajulu died December last year in Pretoria while being treated for pancreatic cancer at Meulmed Hospital.
