President Uhuru Kenyatta’s remarks that Mombasa County had received Sh40 Billion from the National Government have been proved wrong after information on new Government Portal revealed the County only received Sh16.4 Billion.
A close look at details on the new website, which was unveiled by the President, showed that only Sh 16 Billion had been disbursed to Mombasa.
While on a tour of the coast, President Kenyatta lashed out at Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho accusing him of mismanagement of public funds and asking him to account for the Sh40 Billion disseminated to the county for development.
On his part, Joho insisted that he had received Sh16 Billion and even went ahead to write to Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich asking for a clarification on Uhuru’s claims.
The Governor went further to demand the remaining Sh23 billion of the Sh40 Billion from the Treasury citing that it would help solve urgent development challenges in the county.
The Controller of Budget later insisted the county had received Sh29.17 Billion.
The President officially launched the My Government Portal at KICC during the launch of the first ever National ICT forum.
He stated that the website, www.delivery.go.ke would help Kenyans track all development projects carried out by the Jubilee Government in the last four years.
