Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho Wins Court Case Against Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP)

High Court Judge Eric Ogola on Wednesday ruled in favour of Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho barring the police and the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) from any further arrest or prosecution.

The judge directed that the Governor's bodyguards who were withdrawn by the state to be reinstated.

Justice Ogola termed as malicious the actions taken against Governor Joho by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and other state agencies.

He observed that the state bodies had misinterpreted President Uhuru Kenyatta's utterances during his Mombasa visit as a call to harasss Joho while they were just political utterances.

"Why the flurry of investigations and why now? The respondents misinterpreted the President’s utterances," he observed.

The High Court Judge added that the state had intended to destroy the Governor's political career especially his bid to defend his seat in August.

"All alleged investigations by the Government agencies have a political ending in my observation," Justice Ogola noted.

Judge Ogola reiterated that the investigations over Joho’s academic certificates had “become comical in the manner they have been displayed in the public domain.”
