Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero to Honour the Late Waiyaki wa Hinga with Statue

Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero stated that Nairobians will soon have a new statue in honour of the Waiyaki Family.

The Governor, while paying tribute to the family of the late Dr Fredrick Lawrence Munyua Waiyaki, stated that the County would erect a statue along Chiromo Road in honour of the family’s patriarch, Waiyaki wa Hinga for his role in the country’s liberation struggle.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, who was also present at the funeral, underscored the need for all Kenyans to put the interests of the country above those of individuals regardless of political inclination for Kenya to achieve its development aspirations.

“I do hope that going forward Kenyans will begin to recognize that there are times when national interests supersede our own petty political differences. There are times when we must come together,” President Kenyatta stated

Paying glowing tribute to the late Dr Waiyaki, President Kenyatta described him as a true Kenyan and a Pan-Africanist and invited all leaders across the political divide to bring in their experience and help move the country to the next level.

“I invite my brother Raila Odinga after I defeat him in August and all those Kenyans who have had wide experience to share the problems and the challenges that the nation is facing and allow them to interrogate issues for the benefit of the country,” President Kenyatta said.

The National Super Alliance (NASA) flag-bearer Raila Odinga on his part eulogised Dr Waiyaki as a great Kenyan, Pan-Africanist and a philosopher who stood for the people of Kenya.

“Dr Waiyaki stood firm in promoting the interests of Kenya and came up with a clear foreign policy that guided our interaction with the rest of the world,” Mr Odinga stated.

The late Dr Waiyaki died on April 25, 2017, while undergoing treatment at the Aga Khan Hospital

Prior to his death, he served the country as a former Agriculture Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for North Eastern Nairobi (now Kasarani constituency).
