Bamburi Residents Criticise President Uhuru Kenyatta's Projects

Residents of Bamburi in Mombasa are enraged after a section of the road that was commissioned by President Uhuru Kenyatta in January sunk.

Soils underneath the road are severely eroded and although trenches for a drainage system were dug during its construction, the heavy rains experienced in the area have caused severe damage.

Shanzu Member of County Assembly aspirant Martin Wekesa expressed his regret at the state of the road just a few months after its commissioning.

"It is unfortunate just after the first rainy season, we have this kind of damage that has been caused by the floods.

“The system should have been commissioned with running waters or during the rains, but we saw the President coming here during the dry season,” he said.

The Head of State commissioned the road on January 5, in an event where he publicly differed with Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho.

Joho accused Kenyatta of bragging about projects funded by the World Bank and other international donors at the Coast.

In response, Uhuru stated that he would not engage in divisive politics, but concentrate on development projects and later barred Joho from attending the launch of the Mtongwe Ferry channel.
