Kenyan Footballers With Bachelor Degrees

Football in Kenya has often been associated with hooliganism and most players are thought to have ventured into the sport due to poor performance in school or financial difficulties.

This might be aided by the fact that most local footballers in both professional and amateur leagues adopt rugged looks; shaggy hair and a look of toughness on their faces.

Interestingly though, some of the footballers in Kenya have actually reached the highest levels of education and are holders of degrees from various universities.

1. Brian Osumba

He is a combative midfielder who plays for Tusker FC and is known for his aggression on and off the ball. Osumba is a Certified Public Accountant and is an alumnus of Strathmore University and the University of Nairobi.

2. Michael Olunga

Engineer, as many call him was a student at Upper Hill School Nairobi where he scored an impressive A- before proceeding to the Technical University of Kenya to pursue a degree in Geospatial Engineering. Prior to his move to China where he is currently plying his trade, Olunga was revered at Gor Mahia where he was the top scorer in consecutive seasons.

3. Bernard Mang'oli

He plays for AFC Leopards as a midfielder and is a holder of a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Studies from Kenyatta University.

4. Paul Kiongera

Kiongera currently plays for AFC Leopards as a striker and has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and Sociology from Kenyatta University.

Having played for several local clubs before including Gor Mahia, he is one of the most talented forwards in the region and is well-known for his sharpness in front of the goal.

5. Samuel Mwangi

Better known as Mwas among his peers, he plays for KCB and is one of the most talented footballers in the number 10 position.

Not only is he good on the pitch but also smart, book-wise, as he has a Bachelor of Business Information Technology from Strathmore University.

Despite his diminutive figure, Mwas has great ball control and his ability to dribble with both feet makes him a nightmare for opponents.

6. Victor Ashinga

Ashinga currently plays as a midfielder for Thika United and has a Bachelor of Science in Sports Science from Kenyatta University.

7. Dennis Mukaisi

Mukaisi is currently playing at Posta Rangers as a forward and has a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.
