President Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto to Grace 2017 Groove Awards

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto could on Thursday, June 1st grace the annual Groove Awards gala at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

Sources close to the President intimated that Uhuru and his deputy could be the chief guests at the event that will see top gospel artists awarded for their remarkable role in the industry.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the Groove team disclosed that they had invited the President to attend the prestigious event, but noted that it was not a guarantee that Kenyatta would show up considering his tight schedule.

The awards gala that will be marked by top-notch performances from some of the finest musicians, DJs, MCs and dancers will also see the top brass of Safaricom as well as big names from the corporate world, and showbiz writers attending.

Kevin Mulei, the brains behind the groove awards, stated that the annual event had gained ground as it had now become an international outfit despite starting as a small national concept.

"Groove Awards has been a celebration of gospel talent across the continent. We started small as a national outfit and now we are featuring artists from across the continent," Mulei stated.

He also noted that this year's awards were crafted on the theme of unity and continuity to unite Kenyans ahead of the elections.

"Our theme this year revolves around unity and continuity as we approach the electioneering period. Music is universal and we want to use it to unite Kenyans," the MoSounds Events founder stated.

The Groove team has been conducting tours prior to the major event where they visited Machakos, Eldoret, and last Sunday they were in Karatina.

The award gala will see top artists contest for top honours in 16 categories that include; Gospel DJ of the year, Female Gospel Artist of the Year and Male Gospel Artist of the Year.
