Kenya African National Union (KANU) Aspirant, Ezekiel Okengo, Dies

Kenya African National Union (KANU) aspirant for South Mugirango Parliamentary seat, Ezekiel Okeng'o  has passed on.

Mr Okeng'o died on  Saturday while undergoing treatment at the Tabaka Mission Hospital in Kisii County.

His son Buddy Moturi confirmed his father's death noting that the family was yet to receive an official medical report from the hospital.

"We are saddened by the loss of our father. He has been sick for almost one month," Moturi stated.

KANU Fresh Kisii Aspirants Coordinator Daniel Raburi confirmed that Okengo had filed nomination papers with the party before his demise.

The late served as a probation officer in Kisii before joining politics in 2010. 

Okengo's death comes a week after Itibo Ward MCA aspirant Kefa Nyangatare died while on a campaign trail in Nyamira County.

Nyangatare who was to vie on a Democratic Party (DP) ticket is said to have been heading to conduct his campaigns when he veered off Ikonge-Magwanga road.

He was reported to have been avoiding to hit a motorcycle rider when he lost control and crashed.

These incidents come as campaigns continue to heat up with aspirants preparing to battle it out in the August 8 General Election.
