High Court Orders Arrest of ODM National Elections Board Chair Judith Pareno

The High Court has ordered the arrest of Orange Democratic Movement National Elections Board Chair Judith Pareno.

She has been accused of contempt of court and police have been asked to arrest her within 24 hours.

Ms Pareno had earlier on been summoned to appear before Justice Jessie Lesit to clarify why action should not be taken against her for disobeying orders in regards to the disputed ODM nominations for Muhoroni Constituency.

The party had declared the incumbent, James Onyango K'oyoo, as the winner prompting his rival Professor Ayiecho Olueny to move to court challenging the results.

In his petition, Ayiecho complained that he did not know the source of results which were used to declare K'oyoo winner. The court then directed Pareno to ensure that results were tabulated and the winner be declared using the totals, an order which the party did not follow through.

Last month, a section of ODM Party lawmakers who lost in the nominations were plotting a revenge against her.

The MPs, furious after losing the primaries, had vowed to shoot down the nomination of Pareno to the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA).

They accused her of presiding over their downfall in the primaries.
