20 Students from Iterio Boys High School in Kisii County Arrested

20 students from Iterio Boys High School in Kisii County were arrested on Tuesday after they rioted on Sunday night demanding an early mid-term break.

The students, most of them Form Four candidates, were reported to have stormed out of their dormitories breaking windows and smashing chairs.

The School Principal, Mr Isaack Okeyo Ogol, condemned the move by the students stating that the set dates had been set by the Ministry of Education.

"All students in secondary schools across the country will be going for midterm from June 19 to 26. There is no way we can go against that policy. We got help from the police and some students managed to apprehend the culprits," Mr Ogeyo stated.

Mr Ogeyo noted that those arrested would face the full force of the law.

Gesonso Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) David Mabrukwa said the suspects would be charged with malicious damage to school property

"They will be treated as criminals," Mr Mabrukwa noted.

In August 2016, five Form Four candidates from the school were charged in a Kisii Court for burning seven dormitories worth Sh4.9 Million.

The five started a fire after they were denied a chance to watch a football match.

It cost parents over Sh12 Million to put up the seven dormitories that were set ablaze.

The current school head, Mr Ogol, was posted to the school following the incident.
