President Uhuru Kenyatta Embarks on Nyanza Tour

President Uhuru Kenyatta will on Tuesday begin a week-long tour of South Nyanza Counties to hunt for votes ahead of the August General Election and he has already been told what to expect.

Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire on Monday stated that President Kenyatta was welcome to campaign in Gusiiland but should forget the community’s votes.

Bosire has often warned Kenyatta against what he terms as 'public relations stunts' and has once again sounded him a warning.

“We have no problem with the President going anywhere and everywhere. We cannot do what they did to us in Kapsabet on Sunday where they attempted to disrupt our rally,” said Bosire.

"We do not have them at heart. Our resolve to support NASA is resolute," he asserted.

Bosire went ahead to say that the Jubilee government had done little to compensate Internally Displaced Persons (IDP's) in the area and their plight has often been neglected.

“There are fundamental issues of national nature like compensation of IDPs who were displaced during the 2007 post-election violence.

"IDPs from Kisii were not compensated and we have consistently raised the issue but it has not been addressed,” said Bosire.

Last week, National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders were heckled in Kapsabet, a Jubilee Party stronghold, and were forced to abandon their meeting in an event that was termed unfortunate considering all Presidential candidates have the right to campaign across the country.

It remains to be seen how Kenyatta will be received in other sections of Nyanza especially after NASA flag bearer Raila Odinga was snubbed by the Head of State and Ruto during the recently held Madaraka Day celebrations in Nyeri.

Today President Kenyatta will be in the South Nyanza County of Kisii where he will address citizens at Masimba, Keroka, Keumbu, Jogoo (Kisii town), Nyatieko, Nyakoe, Suneka and Tabaka.

From Kisii, the President will on Wednesday, June 7, head to Nyamira where he will meet and address residents at Ikonge, Ekerenyo, Nyamaiya, Nyamira, Kimera, Magombo, Rigoma and Nyansiongo while in the afternoon he will be in the Western region county of Kakamega.

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the Head of State will make an extensive tour of Trans Nzoia and Uasin Gishu counties – the country’s grain basket.
