President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday surprised five Chinese Nationals, awarding them with the prestigious Moran of Elder of the Burning Spear (EBS).
The five include Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Liu Xianfa, Executive Director of China Communications Construction Company Fenjian Chen, Liu Guangyuan, Chen Yun who was an influential leader in China in 1980s and 1990s and General Manager of Shanghai SMPIC Corporation Zhang Min.
During the awarding ceremony at State House, nine other people also received the EBS honour alongside the Chinese men.
Karachuonyo Member of Parliament (MP) James Rege, Kanyuira Gerald Gikonyo, Irungu Joseph Wairagu, and Ambasador Saleh Mohamed Ali were among the Kenyans honoured with the first class of the EBS.
The second class went to Samburu Woman Representative Leshoomo Maison, Brigadier Lokia Fredrick Ekidor, Professor Mukras Mohammed Suleiman and Kabugi Thayu Kamau.
Eleven other people awarded the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW) of Kenya while three others got the Silver Star (SS) of Kenya.
Five civilians received the President's Commendation.
In April the Head of State awarded Former US President Barack Obama's grandmother, Mama Sarah Obama, with the Elder of the Burning Spear (EBS).
Mama Sarah was awarded the honours in recognition of her dedicated service to the poor and less privileged in the society.
She was applauded for founding Mama Sarah Obama Foundation (MSOF) - a charitable organisation dedicated to helping orphans and poor families feed and educate their children.
