KPMG Submits Report on Voter Register Audit to IEBC

Audit firm KPMG has disclosed a number of errors that have been discovered in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) voter register.

In a 219-page report submitted to the Commission on Friday, the audit discovered that 2.9 out of the 19.6 million records in the IEBC register contain inaccuracies, including inconsistencies in the date of birth and gender.

Out of the findings emerging from the report, there were 92,277 dead people in the voter register who according to the firm, should be expunged.

The scrutiny discovered that out of the 19.6 million registered voters, 171,476 records have invalid Identification (ID) numbers when compared to the National Registration Bureau (NRB).

KPMG further disclosed that 17,523 of the voters registered using invalid Passport references whereas 196,677 were found to be duplications.

In the audit that was conducted on the 2017 register, it was unearthed that 5,427 records of voters do not have biometric fingerprint images. 4,209 voter applications from 19 constituencies were also found missing.

The report indicated that among all the enlisted voters, there were 502,409 distinct records with at least one missing detail.

The firm in April began the verification of the register to determine its accuracy ahead of the August 8 General Election.

KPMG Chief Executive Officer Josphat Mwaura indicated that they would review the register against certified data on national IDs and passports and later provide a report with recommendations to the polls body.
