Gatundu South Legislator Moses Kuria Supports Kennedy Musyoka's Nomination to the East African Legislative Assembly

Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria on Saturday shocked many after he vowed to support National Super Alliance (NASA) Deputy flagbearer Kalonzo Musyoka's son Kennedy Musyoka's bid for a position at the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) contrary to his party's position.

The Legislator noted that it was not right for Kennedy to be denied an opportunity on the basis of being Kalonzo's son and not his qualifications.

"I express my support for Kennedy Musyoka.  When his name comes up in the National Assembly, I will vote for and support his candidature. I have listened to voices that are opposed to his candidature and I am not convinced.

"As a matter of fact, I am convinced that so many Kenyans are denied opportunities because they are not from well-known families and I say that is very wrong. But it is equally wrong to deny a Kenyan an opportunity, simply because they are from a known family," Kuria stated.

He (Kuria) explained that Kennedy's nomination should be discussed based on His(Kennedy's ) qualification and added that those opposed to the young Musyoka's candidature were doing so on a personal level and not as Jubilee's official position.

“Everyone needs to be judged on their own merit.

“We have not taken a corporate decision.  I would want to believe those members who are opposed to Kennedy’s nomination did it on their own personal stand.”

Kuria endorsed Kennedy and stated that once the names are tabled in Parliament, he shall vote for the youthful Musyoka while urging his colleagues to also support him.

Kennedy on his part highlighted that he was equal to the challenge and was ready to serve the country if he sailed through.

“He has represented the spirit of the Constitution which is all about fairness. For me, all I would ask in this process is fairness. I believe I am qualified; I just want an opportunity to serve my country,” Kennedy mentioned.

Last month, the  Leader of the Majority in the National Assembly Aden Duale had vowed that Jubilee will shut off Kennedy's bid terming his nomination as nepotism.

“Unlike Oburu Odinga who I now consider to be intelligent, Kennedy Musyoka doesn’t want to listen to me and he will be taught a lesson. You can quote me on that, we will lobby and we will make sure he does not get that position,” Duale stated.

It now waits to be seen whether other Jubilee Legislators will support Kennedy when the vote comes up in Parliament.
