Billionaire George Thuo's Family Moves to Court Over Naming of Girlfriend in Inheritance

Controversy has marred the inheritance of late Kenyan Billionaire George Thuo’s estate after the family went to court to challenge the sharing of his massive assets.

In his will, which has been disputed by his wife Agrippina Thuo and grandson Michael Muriu, the tycoon included his alleged long-time girlfriend Ruth Njeri leaving her a piece of property.

According to the will, the billionaire wished that upon his death, Njeri inherits his house in Thika Section 3.

The grandson went to court to challenge the legitimacy of the document on grounds that the signature was forged.

Muriu filed the case at the High Court in Nairobi to claim the children were not adequately provided for in the 2 billion estate.

The charge sheet filed by Mr Muriu accused Wangari Junior Thuo, Francis Njunguna, Mary Nyokabi and Nichodemus Gatoho of forgery with intent to deceive.

Interestingly, the alleged girlfriend is listed as one of the witnesses together with Muriu who is a lawyer whose signature was on the will as one of the people who witnessed Thuo’s last wishes together with George Gichira.

In an unexpected twist, Muriu’s grandmother confirmed that the document which names the wife and grandson George Thuo as executors of the will was indeed legitimate as she had seen it before.

The late Thuo, who died in June 2010, owned 130 acres of land opposite Mang’u High School and had several pieces of land and properties in and around Thika town.

The court files reveal that the Late Thuo had many investments with shares in 16 companies among them Barclays Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Housing Finance and Nation Media Group.
