4 Bodyguards of Machakos County First Lady Lilian Ng'ang'a Perish in Road Accident

Four Bodyguards of Machakos County First Lady Lilian Ng'ang'a and a driver died on Tuesday morning after being involved in a tragic accident.

The accident is reported to have occurred at Lukenya along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway after County vehicle collided head-on with another vehicle, a Toyota Prado.

The deceased, two Administration Police (AP) officers and two county Askaris, were returning from Nairobi escorting the First Lady to her residence at about 2 am.

Athi River OCPD Sharmah Wario stated that the driver of the Prado was reportedly taken Mater Hospital in critical condition.

Machakos County Governor Alfred Mutua in a statement passed his condolences to the bereaved families and prayed that the Almighty God gives them strength.

"I pass my heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of officers attached to my office who passed away last night at Lukenya area Machakos County while heading home after duty," the Governors statement read in part.

The Governor noted that the accident had claimed some of the officers he had spent the day with during his tour of Yatta-Sub county.

"The accident claimed two police officers and two other Machakos County employees. Some of the officers had spent the day with me during my very busy trip to Yatta- Sub-County on Monday. The vehicle they were traveling in had just dropped off one of my assigned bodyguards and was heading to drop the other officers to their homes when the accident occurred," he stated.

He further noted that the accident was a very sad occurrence and called for the improvement of infrastructure especially lighting to minimize future happenings in the country.
