2 Children Killed 3 Injured as Bomb Explodes in Mandera

Two children were on Saturday killed and three others seriously injured in Mandera after a gadget they were playing with exploded.

Mandera Deputy County Commissioner David Mbevi indicated that the children picked up the suspected grenade and started playing with it leading to the explosion.

Mr Mbevi further indicated that one of the children died on the spot while the other died in hospital.

The injured children aged between 13 and 15 were admitted at Mandera County Referral hospital where they are currently recuperating.

Bomb experts are investigating the explosion but the residents believe that the explosion was terror related.

The attack comes a few months after a dawn to dusk curfew was imposed in Mandera following the death of a police reservist.

Mandera has in the past suffered serious attacks believed to be conducted by Somalia terror group al Shabaab.
