The government has warned that any Kenyan found taking or offering bribes during the upcoming police recruitment will face strict legal action.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen issued the warning on Sunday while speaking during a church service at A.G.C. Kaboson in Bomet County.
“We demand transparency and accountability. Those who are carrying money when people go to run so that they can bribe, we want to tell you that we will arrest you,” Murkomen said.
In a bid to curb the malpractice, Murkomen urged local communities to record anyone involved in bribery using their phones and report them to the authorities. He questioned why citizens are often quick to record politicians but fail to document such illegal practices.
Additionally, the CS directed that those overseeing the recruitment exercise ensure it runs according to the scheduled timelines and concludes by exactly 5pm across all recruitment centres nationwide.
Murkomen also emphasised that upon completion, the names of all successful candidates should be announced promptly so that everyone knows the results early.
“We want you, as local Kenyan communities, to come out as observers. We want your support for those who will be bribing, to record them and bring them to us, so that we can sort out this thing of corruption,” he added.
Adding that: “We want the exercise to be completed by 5pm so that we can be able to announce all the successful applicants.”
At the same time, he assured Kenyans that measures have been put in place to ensure that the recruitment exercise will be transparent and fair for all applicants.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja confirmed that the recruitment will take place on November 17, 2025, across all sub-counties in the country.
According to NPS, applicants must meet several minimum requirements, including being Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 28 years, holding a valid national ID, and having at least a D+ in KCSE with a minimum D+ in either English or Kiswahili.
On the recruitment day, candidates must report to designated centres by 8am with the original and copies of their academic certificates, ID cards, birth certificates, and, where applicable, NYS discharge certificates with at least a 'GOOD' conduct rating.
