The battle for Mt. Kenya's political supremacy has taken a dramatic turn as former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria publicly dared Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua to visit his home turf.
“I dare you to step foot in my home ground if you are a man.” Moses Kuria dared.
The dare comes ahead of Gachagua's planned visit to Githunguri Constituency on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
Gachagua is expected to attend a church service at AIPCA Karatina Church before proceeding to the Komothai Super Cup at PCEA Kagema Primary School in Kibichoi.
Kuria's post was a response to Jamleck M Kihiu, a 2027 MCA aspirant for Komothai Ward, in Kiambu County which is within Kuria's stronghold.
The pair have been embroiled in an escalating rivalry over influence and dominance of the Mt Kenya voting bloc as the 2027 general election approaches.
Kuria escalated the confrontation, on Saturday, January 3, 2025 accusing Gachagua of orchestrating violence.
"Mr Rigathi Gachagua you are a coward, a despot, and a dangerous man. From today, prepare for battle royale. You crossed the red line," Kuria declared, referencing the alleged assault on Lamu Woman Representative Muthoni Marubu.
Kuria has further claimed that Gachagua orchestrated his removal from the Cabinet and his reassignment from the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry. He later stepped down from a government advisory position in July 2025.
Gachagua, on his part, has labeled Kuria a "project" of the presidency aimed at dividing Mt. Kenya's political unity.
Kuria has criticized Gachagua's leadership as "backward and primitive," accusing him of promoting "raw tribalism."
The power struggle has played out through heated public exchanges on social media and in interviews.
With Gachagua's Sunday visit to Kuria's backyard looming, all eyes are on whether the political showdown will escalate further.
