2 ODM MPs from Wajir County Defect to Jubilee

ODM leader Raila Odinga has suffered a major blow after 2 MPs decamped from his party to President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party.

The MPs are Adan Keynan Wehliye, and Mohamed Ibrahim Elmi who were joined by Jubilee's Abass Sheikh Mohamed as they promised to rally their Degodia clan in re-electing President Kenyatta.

They were joined by other leaders including 15 Wajir County MCAs led by their Speaker Bishar Omar.

Eldas MP Adan Keynan said Wajir County had resolved to join the Jubilee Party which is the winning team.

“Your Excellency you know us, we are always clear on our decisions. When we were joining the opposition we declared during the daylight. This is the same thing we are doing here. What we are doing here is building an inclusive County,”  Keynan stated.

The leaders who were speaking at State House, Nairobi, said the county had been seriously affected by the ongoing drought and called on the national government to scale up its drought mitigation programme in the area.

Speaking during the function, President Uhuru Kenyatta said it has been his desire all along to work with the people of Wajir for the sake of unity and stability of the region.

“I am happy with the decision you have made. This has been my prayer since 2013, it was our intention to work with you,” said the President.

Deputy President William Ruto, who was also present, said the leaders had done the right thing by joining Jubilee because the party’s aim is to bring all Kenyans together.

“Wajir leaders want a county which is inclusive just as Jubilee wants one inclusive country,” said the Deputy President.
