2 Police Officers Attacked in Kajiado

Two police officers sustained injuries on Friday evening after they were attacked at Embuyangat area in Kajiado County.

The two were assaulted by angry residents after they were dispatched to maintain order during demonstrations to object against the construction of a waste treatment plant in the area.

The officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations were ambushed when they arrived at the scene only for the local to mistake them for workers of the plant.

The more than 500 protesters turned their anger on the plain clothe officers pelting them with stones and other weapons.

As the officers run for their lives, they were forced to fire in the air to disperse the irate residents.

Normalcy resumed after the demonstrators realised the two were security agents as a contingent of other officers moved in to control the situation.

The enraged locals led by Pastor Stephen Tipatet had camped at the treatment premises waiting for an address from Governor David Nkedianye.

They vowed they would not permit the construction of the plant claiming that it was hazardous.

"We will not allow construction of this incinerator here, it's a health hazard, and dangerous to our environment'' said Tipatet.

Due to the high tension in the area, Governor Nkedianye ordered that the plant be closed indefinitely to avoid further confrontation.
