2 Suspected ISIS Members Arrested in Mombasa

Police in Mombasa on Saturday arrested two suspected terrorists who are said to have jetted into the country two days ago.

The authorities apprehended Nasra Hyder Faiz and Salim Mohammed Rashid on allegations of being members of the Islamic State (ISIS).

The two are said to have returned to the country from Syria where they were allegedly receiving training from the terror group.

Reports indicate that Salim was arrested in Kizingo where he hails from while Nasra was apprehended in Mtwapa.

According to the authorities, the two might have been part of a larger group preparing to launch an attack in the country and could have been sent to give instructions to local militants.

One of the officers privy to the incident stated that investigations that could lead to more arrests had started.

"Their missions are bad. But since we have arrested the two, they will lead us to the others in their team," he was quoted by a local daily.

Confirming the arrests, Mombasa deputy police commander Akello Odhiambo indicated that a speedy probe into the matter would be conducted.

"We have them in custody and our detectives are still grilling them. More information will follow upon complete interrogations," affirmed Ms Odhiambo.
